As You Like It

Alleyn’s Upper School presents As You Like It, Shakespeare’s glorious romantic comedy. It is a wonderful tale of exile, disguises, love, redemption and friendship – of cross-dressing lovers, forlorn shepherds, evil corporations, sibling rivalry and drunken duchesses – characters and relationships who feel as relevant today as they would have in 1599. Which is why we’ve transposed the action to the early 90s – those glorious early days of Generation X!

Directed by Jeremy Piper, this production foregrounds great acting and brilliantly accessible verse and still finds room for dynamic stage combat, gorgeous puppetry and a brilliant live band channelling the spirit of 90’s grunge. It is 100% suitable for all ages and for those who don’t think they like Shakespeare’s work, this will be the year you change your mind! The terrific cast of Upper School students working with a hugely talented student technical and creative team can’t wait to share this wild, ridiculously fun festival of a show with you.
